KENTUCKY STRAIGHT HIGH RYE DOUBLE MALT BOURBON FINISHED IN TEQUILA BARRELS

Mary Dowling Whiskey Co’s high rye Tequila Barrel-Finished bourbon is a testament to Mary Dowling’s nature, expressing the flavors and aromas of the drink’s remarkable journey. It’s a story that begins with our high rye double malt Kentucky straight bourbon. After resting for a minimum of four years in the new toasted and charred Kelvin Cooperage American Oak casks, the beautiful amber liquid is transferred to Appalachian American Oak tequila barrels. The barrels first held sacrificial sherry for a year, followed by Oloroso sherry with Solara system for four years, and then two years holding VDN (Vin Doux Naturel), before holding Reposado tequila in Mexico.

These casks ensure that our Mary Dowling bourbon ultimately reveals aromas suffused with a genuinely distinct whiskey expression. The aroma of oak, subtle spices, herbal roots, citrus orange, and light floral notes stands out on the palate, with a subtle taste of agave, with citrus lemon, grapefruit, smoke, tobacco, and nutmeg. Mary Dowling Tequila-Finished Bourbon’s complexity exudes a surprisingly balanced palate of tangy fruits and earthy, smoky tones, completed by a black-peppery, medium-length finish.

As a consequence of resting in two different oak barrels from Kelvin Cooperage — the first in heavy toasted and Char #3 New American Oak barrels, the second in lightly toasted and Char #1 New American Oak barrels — the liquid benefits from a longer maturing process, creating a deeper, richer taste.

Mary Dowling Double oak is a remarkable wheated bourbon which expresses memorable notes of tobacco, chocolate, anise, cherry, oak, cinnamon, nutmeg, stone fruit, baking spice, and brown sugar, all finished beautifully by the return of the cherry and stone fruit, accompanied by wide, lingering short and dry spices.
